The 2010 Merit Badge-O-Ree offered 36 different merit badges PLUS the Trail to First Class course. Over two dozen counselors offered merit badge classes in over 42 different sessions during the 72 hour encampment. 0ver 263 merit badges were earned along with over 81 “partials.”
More than 100 Scouts representing 16 different Troops from across the Buckskin Council participated in the Camp, along with a handful of enthusiastic Cub Scouts. Over 150 adults visited Camp Roland during the Badge-O-Ree, including family, friends, the press, fire and rescue personnel, and county and state police officers. Most of our District Committee was on hand and almost all of them taught at least one merit badge course. This includes our District Executive, District Chairman, District Vice-Chair, and District Commissioner. The Mountain Dominion District is truly blessed with wonderful volunteers.
Scouts fired arrows, shotguns and rifles, swam in the pool (and the creek), cooked over campfires, earned 3 of the 100th Scouting Anniversary “Heritage” merit badges, fished in Wolf Creek, and participated in a terrific Campfire program. Scouts visited the Wolf Creek Indian Village, the Bland County Weigh Station, the Wilderness Road Truck Stop, and the Wolf Creek Golf Course. We buried a “Time Capsule” in honor of the 100th Anniversary of Scouting that included T-shirts, newspapers, patches, Scout crafts, and more. We endured very warm temperatures, participated in a lively emergency preparedness drill, enjoyed lots of great camaraderie, and had a safe and fun experience that will last in our memories for many years to come.

Congratulations to our District's recipients of the Silver Beaver Award:
Mr. Quintin (Dale) Vance of Cub Scout Pack 94 in Bluefield, Virginia
Mr. Tim Wallace of Troop 61 in Richlands and of Camp Roland
Mr. Blaine White, of Troop 61 in Richlands
These gentlemen will be honored at the Council Recognition Dinner at Columbia Gas & Transmission Headquarters in Charleston on February 6, 2010. Plan to be there in support of these committed individuals!
